Hearts on The Harbour Charity Event Photography
One of the great things about being a photographer is being able to work with people who simply do amazing things. I was extremely lucky back in June to find myself shooting the Hearts on the Harbour, a charity dinner run by Hearts, an organization that funds children's cancer research. The night was a veritable smorgasbord of local philanthropists, with backgrounds ranging from football, to entertainment, wine and property, it was truly inspiring to see such a vast array of people coming together in order to help fund something truly valuable.
This year was at the simply stunning Pier One on the Rocks, and coincided with the Vivid light festival, the Harbour Bridge was thus lit even more spectacularly than usual, providing a vibrant background the evenings proceedings. Not that Pier One was to be upstaged by the festivities outside, the already extremely sophisticated dining room sported sculptures from local artists and live music provided a relaxed atmosphere. There was also a select few speakers, who reminded us not just of what the event was there to fight, but of the hardiness of the human spirit, both in an individual and as a whole, when faced with such an immense trial. The night ended on an upbeat note, with a very competitive charity auction and much dancing.
The night was a rousing success and once again I am thankful to Skye Houghton from Saatchi and Saatchi as well as the other event organizers for letting me be there, it was a great thing to be a part of and I look forward to the next time Made of Light Photography will be their event photographer.
